Beautiful Accommodations

It's no exaggeration to say that our beloved home took five years to design and that we are so proud of how it turned out.  Villa Areopagus has always been our vacation home.  Having fallen in love with Costa Rica 30 years ago, we wanted a place that was energy efficient and respected the natural beauty of the land.  The open floor plan, expansive use of strategic window placements, and the home's physical orientation atop the town's most prominent hill allow for natural heating and cooling. You are afforded 360-degree views that cover the whole central valley, western mountain range, eastern volcanic range, and rolling hills below that cradle the morning fog.

Offerings

You'll find breathtaking views from every room, the finest linens, personalized music system and a handshake with nature.

Common Questions, Our Answers

We are dedicated to making you as comfortable in our home as we are!

  • Is Villa Areopagus close to the (SJO) airport?

Yes, we're just over 30 minutes away from the San Jose International Airport (SJO)

Our Villa is conveniently located just a short drive from the nearest international airport, making it a perfect location to start your Costa Rican adventure soon after you touch down in Costa Rica. There are three routes so we recommend you  use a map app (Google, Waze, etc) to select the best way. If you want to take the toll highway Route 27, you will need a credit card or approx. 2,000 colones for the tolls.

  • What special packages or services do you offer?

Villa Areopagus offers a host of ways you can personalize your stay to best meet your needs, and interests.

We offer in-home gourmet chef services, the option for more frequent cleaning, maid service, massage, yoga, access to low-cost car rentals and a dedicated driver.  These services are available on a first-come basis so please let us know at the time of booking if any interest you.

  • What are some of the activities close by?

Our property is centrally located, with a lovely beach, shopping, fine dining, spa, golf, and horseback riding all within an hour's drive.

Situated in a prime location, Villa Aroepagus gives you easy access to various attractions throughout Costa Rica.  From the scenic Playa Herradura beach, La Iguana Golf Course, to high-end shopping centers, all available within a scenic 40-minute to an hour drive.

  • How many people can Villa Areopagus accomodate?

Our four bedrooms can very comfortably sleep 8 adults.

Our home is quite large, as are the bedrooms. The four bedrooms have four beds: the Master bedroom has a CalKing mattress, the Azul bedroom a Queen, the Amarillo bedroom a Queen, and the Naranja den/bedroom is equipped with one pull-out King.  Each bedroom has a private balcony, and three of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with rainfall showers and large bathtubs.

  • Is your property secure, safe?

Most certainly.  We sit on the hillside above Atenas, a peaceful and safe area. At the same time, our property is gated, with a security entrance, outdoor cameras, and an alarm system.

Your safety is our priority.  In the ten years that we have had our home in Costa Rica, neither our home has ever been the victim of any crime, vandalism, or harm.  Most of Costa Rica, certainly the Atenas area, is safe for visitors and residents.  As with the 'safest' places in the world, you should always exercise common sense and maintain environmental awareness.

  • When's a good time to visit?

Every month of the year has something to offer our guests.

While Costa Rica is known for having a 'green' season (late May - mid-November) and 'dry' season (mid-November to May), the weather tends to be lovely year-round.  Even the heaviest rainy season in the cloud forests offers something unique to that period.  You can check out weather matters here.

  • What makes Villa Areopagus stand out from others

Our home has won numerous awards for its unique architectural design and environmental responsiveness.

Maybe it's our size - 7,400 square feet of space, 14 gated acres of land, 360o views, electronic gate and entry, gourmet kitchen, elegant 12-person dining room, en suite bedrooms with private balcony, SONOS sound system, scents, and views like no other!  Maybe it's our artwork, the quality of materials we've used and our ability to better any five-star hotel around.

  • Where's the name Areopagus come from?

The Areopagus is a major hillside near to the Acropolis in Athens (Atenas in Spanish), Greece. It is considered the birthplace of democracy, a place where people of all backgrounds came together for collaborative dialogue. A place where respect for all men and women, where all were given equal voice, thrived. This is our personal philosophy and  we want our home to reflect this belief.
